SYNOPSIS

She Kills Monsters focuses on Agnes Evans, a young woman who loses her parents and younger sister in a car accident. Intrigued by the Dungeons and Dragons module that her late sister, Tilly, created, Agnes plays the game for the first time.  As she delves deeper into her quest, the fantasy world and reality begin to collide and mix as Agnes searches to connect with Tilly and realizes how much of her sister she never knew.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Cold Readings from the script

Because this will be presented in Readers Theatre format, I may have people read for characters that are not in your typical age range.

There will be space on the audition form to write if you are comfortable reading a role opposite your gender.

Some characters have dual identities (real-world and fantasy), so performers may need to switch between personas - which is always fun for an actor, right?!!

Actors may be cast to read multiple roles.

CAST BREAKDOWN

LEAD

Agnes Evans:  Mid-to-late 20s, a pragmatic high school teacher (or senior in the YA version). Initially average and cautious, she becomes more adventurous and emotionally open as she plays Tilly’s D&D module

Tilly Evans:  Agnes’s younger sister, a passionate D&D enthusiast and self-proclaimed “nerd.” In the game, she’s a level 20 Paladin, brave and protective. In life, she’s spunky, energetic, and exploring her identity; her death in a car crash is central to the story

SUPPORTING

Miles:  Agnes’s boyfriend. Well-meaning but initially resistant to her D&D obsession. His arc shows acceptance and support for her journey

Vera:  A fantasy character in the D&D world, often part of the party’s adventures

Orcus/Ronnie:  A lazy, irreverent demon in the game who was once a fearsome Overlord. In reality, he’s Ronnie, a socially awkward student. He’s the play’s main comic relief

Chuck:  A quirky, enthusiastic high school student and Dungeon Master who introduces Agnes to D&D. He’s socially awkward but deeply knowledgeable, providing comic relief and genuine care for Tilly’s memory

Kaliope:  An athletic Dark Elf tracker in the game, skilled and formal in speech. In reality, she has a physical disability and is Tilly’s friend. Her character highlights strength and adaptability

Lilith:  In the game, a fierce Demon Queen and Tilly’s partner. In reality, she’s a student with a close, possibly romantic relationship with Tilly. She’s strong, confident, and sarcastic, with a vulnerable side

FEATURED

Steve:  a recurring character in Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons game, often meeting unfortunate and humorous deaths

Farrah:  Another fantasy character in the D&D setting

Succubi (Evil Gabby & Evil Tina):  Fantasy antagonists in the game world
