At once bold and intimate, The Last Five Years explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. This semi-autobiographical sung-through musical by Jason Robert Brown challenges the standard form of musical theatre: it features Jamie's story told in chronological order, while Cathy's story is simultaneously presented in reverse chronological order.
