SYNOPSIS

At once bold and intimate, The Last Five Years explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. This semi-autobiographical sung-through musical by Jason Robert Brown challenges the standard form of musical theatre: it features Jamie's story told in chronological order, while Cathy's story is simultaneously presented in reverse chronological order. Performed with no intermission by two compelling actors, The Last Five Years is a searingly honest look at the highs and lows inherent in building a relationship between two artists. This contemporary musical asks the audience to consider multiple viewpoints as choices are made and feelings falter. There are three sides to this love story: his side, her side, and the truth.
